International Investors
Welcome to an array of investment opportunities in Chile
Legal and Economic Stability: Chile has a long-standing policy of non-discrimination towards foreign investors. In principle, they enjoy the same rights as Chilean investors. The legal framework is clear and offers a high degree of legal certainty.
Low Corruption: Chile ranks well on the global Corruption Perceptions Index, which minimises the business risk.
Investment: In general no statutory minimum capital requirement for founding a company in Chile, which also makes small investments attractive, unless you want to use your investment to apply for a visa as a temporary resident under the business category. In this case, a minimum investment of 500.000 USD is required.
Uncomplicated Company Formation: There are simplified procedures for registering companies online, such as the “Sociedad por Acciones” (SpA), a type of simplified public limited company that can also be formed by an individual. However, you would need a Chilean citizen or a permanent resident as the legal representative of your company.
Real Estate and Land: Foreigners can own real estate in Chile with few restrictions. The main requirement is obtaining a Chilean tax number (RUT). Ask us what the application of this certificate requires. Land banking in Chile offers significant advantages, primarily due to the country’s stable economy and growing demand for real estate. By acquiring undeveloped land, investors can capitalise on the long-term appreciation of property values, especially in areas targeted for future urban development or infrastructure projects. This strategy allows investors to buy at a lower cost per square meter compared to developed properties and then hold the land until market conditions are optimal for a profitable sale or development. It’s a way to secure a valuable asset and benefit from Chile’s continued economic growth and the expansion of its cities. Larger areas of land can be purchased that are already subdivided into individual building plots.
Tourism: With its enormous variety of landscapes from the Atacama Desert to Patagonia, Chile offers great potential for niche tourism, such as specialised tours, sustainable lodges or adventure travel companies.
Technology and Services: The capital, Santiago, has established itself as a hub for start-ups and technology companies in Latin America. There are opportunities in the development of software, digital services, fintech and specialised consulting services.
Agriculture and Food Processing: Chile is a major exporter of foodstuffs, including fruit (especially cherries and grapes) and wine. Investments in agricultural businesses or food processing could be interesting.
Hazelnut Cultivation: Chile has emerged as a major hazelnut producer, and it’s currently the largest producer in the Southern Hemisphere. This is a significant development, as it allows Ferrero to source hazelnuts year-round due to Chile’s reversed seasons compared to major Northern Hemisphere producers like Turkey and Italy.
Fish Farming: Chile is the world’s second-largest producer of farmed salmon, with the industry being a major economic activity in the southern part of the country, although it faces criticism for its environmental impact.
Renewable Energies: Thanks to its natural resources (wind, sun), Chile is a leader in the renewable energy sector. There are opportunities for small-scale projects or services in this sector.
